We are trying to implement dataguard on 2 different servers. As per the steps we have set up primary, standby etc., We have checked tnsping for standby . It works. Proper entries have been made in listner.ora, tnsnames.ora. The password file was created and copied to standby server in dbs folder. remote.... option is also exclusive. But still we get the above error. What else should we verify? Please suggest.

I have had exactly this problem when using a case sensitive password file. Did you create it with ignorecase=y ?

Actually, I think there may be something more obvious: you are using Windows, does that mean that your password file should be in %ORACLE_HOME%\database, not %ORACLE_HOME%\dbs ?

Hello John

Thank you. I copied the password file to %ORACLE_HOME%\database folder. Then it connected to auxiliary in rman and started working. I had created it with ignorecase=y. Only confusion for me was didn't understand the filename to be given. Whether it is oraowdxxxx or PWDxxxx. Its windows os. anyway I created with both names and copied as I didn't want to stop here to understand for more days. RMAN successfully connected and copied files.
