Hi,
I've 20GB oracle 9.2.0.5 DB running in sun Solaris sparc.
We are planning to upgrade the DB to 10.2.0.1. But we have confusion over the method of upgrading. I'm suggesting about going for manual upgrade, but Mgmt suggests going for imp/exp.
They ask for concrete reason for choosing manual upgrade instead of imp/exp.
Could someone explain what are the advantages/disadvantages of both the methods, so that we could choose one of the methods?

Thanks in advance for looking into this

dbua - faster (less downtime)
exp/imp - safer (have original DB in case of problem)

The different options are listed in Database Upgrade Guide, Chapter 3 Upgrading to the New Oracle Database 10g Release.

Going 9i to 10g, suggest DBUA.

Just take a FULL backup before any upgrade. 10g DBUA is pretty robust.

Yes, but that's useless.
