Hi,
I have rman backup from production database. Name and SID of production database is Prod1 and i want to to check this RMAN backup after restoring it on the other test server (VMDB) for Disaster recovery.

Now problem is that, i want to test it for DR, where i only need to run a script to restore and recover a database at the time of disaster in production site.

My disaster recovery site will be in different network, so i can keep the name of database and sid same as of Production but is it possible that i could install the database in test database with same db name and same sid as of Production when Test and Production database are in same network.

I beleive you meant Test Server.
Yes.
You can same SID and DBNAME in a separate server.

But this test server is in same network (but with different IP Address), does not it create a conflict between running production and test.
Network i means it is connected on same network switch

It should'nt (unless you want to Wink.
Oracle Services are identified by a combination of ip/hostname,port and SID (in tnsnames.ora or jdbc like connection).

One more question i can have same DBID as of Production in other database server when it is running.

Secondly, do i need to install only oracle with patch update without database in test server or i should install database and then restor backup on the same database.

Depends on how you restore.
http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/docs/oracle/10g/server.101/b10734/rcmrecov.htm#1007704

Generally, you want the DBID to be different.
I would prep the target server to be in same Oracle version/patchset as the source.

Check this.. This is to restore RAC to single instance. But steps will be similar for your requirement
