I've installed Oracle 10g on a PC by selecting all options in default. I've used it for 3 weeks. After that I've not used this PC. Still the PC has become very slow.

I've experienced this problem initially on one PC.

I've tested the same on 3 different PCs.

Can anyone help me to prevent this ?
Previously I was using Oracle 9i. I didn't face this system slow down problem.

OEM usually has some cleanup jobs which knacker a consumer PC.

Turn them all off, probably including OEM itself.

Try installing something like Process Explorer and have a look at what's actually running.

I've had 10g running on by pc (with OEM switched off) for about 2 months now and everything's going quite smoothly.

your serach ends here....

create two batch file(.bat) to start and stop oracle services and put them in manual mode. when you are not using oracle why to run it in the background.

when you wish to start oracle just double click the batch file start.bat and when want to stop just stop.bat.

Hope this will help you.

stop.bat
---------
net stop <service name>
net stop <service name>
net stop <service name>

start.bat
---------
net start <service name>
net start <service name>
net start <service name>

I am still waiting for your problem solution. anyways i didn't mean ever to go away from any problem. just gave a solution for home pc not for a production server.

Run AWR and ADDM report and solve the issue if you need to increase memory.

Can you please revert with your PC configuration details (hardware)on which you are facing problem.?

I think this is the first place from where we can start investigation.

Certainly pc specs will help. (Memory/disk/paging file locations)

Also, what else do you use the pc for? Websurfing ? DVD authoring? Email (and if so, what is your email client and version? )

Process Explorer is way cool, by the way. I never new exactly what svchost.exe was actually doing till I got my hands on procexp.

It is definately a must have for a Windows box -

If you *must* run a database on a PC platform, kick up the ram to 4gb and install linux. You'll be happier in the end.

My solution was the same as @Coleing - if you're running on a resourse poor platform, try turning off the OEM processes.

How to turn-off all OEM cleanup jobs including OEM itself.

will it affect the functionality of OEM on Client ?
