i have database running on archive log mode a full database backup taken for this database , then i lost all datafiles and controlfiles , recovery cataloge was on the same database ,
this is why RMAN do not know about the backup taken
then i tried to restore database i got the following error

[oracle@localhost ~]$ rman target sys/oracle

please help if there is a way to tell the RMAN about the backup taken ;

here is the pase of the backup set taken
[oracle@localhost 2009_07_08]$ uname -a

[oracle@localhost 2009_07_08]$ pwd

[oracle@localhost 2009_07_08]$ ls -ltr
total 733952

If you lost the controlfiles, then how did you mount the database?

You can tell RMAN about the backups by using the CATALOG command.

Hi Ebrian

i used an old backup of the control file this copy taken prior the full database backup i used it to mount database but still Rman dont know about the backup taken

i restored the control file from the backup using restore control file from command
and then i restored recovered database successfully

Issue Resolved
