What kind of oracle shutdown is done for the following
a) Restarting Operating System.
b) Restarting Oracle service in windows services panel.

shutdown abort or shutdown immediate or shutdown transactional or shutdown ?

I start with
shutdown immediate
& if/when that does not work I do
shutdown abort

Thanks for your reply. I think i did not covey my question correctly, Sorry my bad.

My question is what will happen to the oracle instance running when I do the following ,

a) Restart the operating system.
b) Restarting Oracle service in windows services panel.

what kind of shutdown option it is equivalent to?

Both cases are equivalent to shutdown abort; or simply unplugging the power cord.

shutdown abort is "safe" in that committed transaction are retained & uncommitted changes will be rolled back upon startup.

You can change the Shutdown mode of database when you use Windows Service to stop the database
