I'm novice in administration and find my server running low of disk space. And I checked there are many files inside the archived log directory. After I shutdown the database, can I manually delete all archived log files?

What are the harms of doing this? Is there any info stored in the control file, system.dbf or sysaux.dbf?

Urgent!

Explain what it is urgent for the forum readers; I don't think it is.

Yes, as soon as you backup your database and possibly the archived logs themselves.

Does it mean the archived log files are used for rollback to previous image only? If I don't need to rollback those data, all I need to do is to backup the data files and control files only.

Am I right?

If I don't need recovery, it's not useful at all. I can recover from the backup of data files. Isn't it?

It depends upon how backups were made, when they were made & how current restoration needs to be.

Archived log are NEVER used to rollback data (exception for recover phase).

I recommend you to read Database Concepts

If you made a backup of your database and WILL USE archived redo log files further to apply to backup of your database when your database crashes, then you HAVE to SAVE those archived redo log files, which were generated after full backup of the database

If you WILL NOT apply any archived redo log files to the backup of the database, then you can delete them manually

Anyway, it depends on your Backup and Recovery Strategy
