Hi
Please advise or give me useful docs to downgrading a database from 9i to 8i.
Original database was 8i (8.1.7) personal edition, which was upgraded to 9i(9.1.2.0) enterprise edition and the upgrade was done using DBUA
I had taken a full backup of the original 8i database in the PC before the upgrade.
Now there is only 1 database in the system which is version 9i.
I need this database back to 8i now.
So, is it possible to achieve this by restoring all the files from backup(Changing the new files back to the old one)?
What other changes should I make?

Hi, Do you mean just physically copy the files to original location(replacing the new 9i ones with the old ones) and nothing else need to be done?
My doubt is:
1)Whatever I have done extra, needs to be reverted right?
2)How does the database version changes from 9i to 8i , by simply restoring the old files?

You binaries need to be restored/installed too. Why would you go from one unsupported version of Oracle to an even older unsupported version?
What do you mean "Whatever I have done extra, needs to be reverted?" Simple restore the old version and you are back to where you started.
If you think you can just take your datafiles from 9i and have them work in 8i, you are mistaken.
export/import is how you would move your data, but you would need to export with the 8i binary against the 9i database.
