would like to know is it feasible to index a table column that store timestamp (e.g 12 mac 2009 18:54:09)

Timestamp is just an extension for DATE datatype.
A better option is to index according to the format that will be used to query.

sorry, what i mean is the date column..
so it is ok to index a datetime column..just to confirm
