Hi!!
Do I have to perform any optimization operation whenever I create an index, so as to make it take effect?

Thanks in advance,
Daniela.

And if the "GATHER_STATS_JOB" is enabled, I ought to do nothing but wait until it runs, isn't it?

Thank you!!

The index may well be used before stats are gathered for it - the CBO will assume a set of default values for it, and the RBO would just use it.

If it's an urgent problem you could run DBMS_STATS.GATHER_INDEX_STATS o or DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS

But I'm using 10.2.0.1.0... I can't see that info now, but I swear I've put it down in the "Product, version, OS" field in "New topic"

Oh! I'm sorry for that. It kept on telling me there was an error and I thought it had not been posted.
