hello,
i was wondering if anyone could help me.
i have just installed Oracle 9i Personal edition on my computer. I have WIndows XP. WHen I try to run SQL+
with USER NAME: SYSTEM
Password: MANAGER
Host String: 0.0.0.0
I get the following error:
ORA-12560: TNS: protocol adapter error
WHen i tried runnin SQL+ again without feeling in any of he above, i clicked on OK and the put in:
USER NAME: SYSTEM
Password: MANAGER
sql+ JUST SHUT down on me.
I did use NEt Config. Assistant and followed all the steps and nothing worked.
please help!

Depends on what you did.
You installed 9i.
But did you also create a sample database? Then you would have needed to enter the database name at that point. Have you followed the Getting Started Guide to the letter?
It won't work if you just read bits of it and skip over parts. You have to follow it step by step.
Also, "does not work" is not an Oracle Error. Oracle errors are usually pretty specific, so when someone knows the actual error that someone most of the time will know what's wrong. But nobody is able to troubleshoot a "does not work".
If you are just getting started, and you want to learn then I would definitely suggest you start with version 11 and forget about 9.

"does not work" was a SQL+ error.
no, i did not install a database, i skipped over it.
I may be stuck with 9i for now simply because i do not have the time to download 1.7 gb of 11g, i really need to get into PL/SQL asap and do all the exercises.

When you "Just downloaded" there is no user name, password and host string.
If you are unable to read the actual README that came with the download, nobody will be able to help you.

I downloaded it from CD which I borrowed from library( Introduction to Relational database and sql programming and I installed it in my laptop and I don't know what is the user name, password and host string.please help me
