HI
I would like to know how could i restore and recover my oracle R12 database in case i lost my server machine.
Steps needed:
1. Get Machine.
2. Install OS
3. Install Oracle server.
4. Restore and recover.
1 and 2 steps i think will be performed by System admin.
Could you anybody help me on 3 and 4.
for 3 i think installation is simple but what if i restore the backup taken for oracle server(ORACLE_HOME) form old machine?
Kindly help me.

It will work - you should run root.sh and rootpre ... and it's possible that you might need to "make oracle".
I know DBA's that have done this...
However I regard it as lazy and is almost certainly not supported by Oracle.
If one of my DBA's did this then I would "discuss" the matter with them...
