Can I restore a backup from a database executed in an x86_64 platform to a ia64 ? After it has been restored, I can just open the database ?

What kind of backup/restore tool are you talking about?
RMAN is OS sensitive. You cannot directly restore.
Still, you can use RMAN to migrate across the OS (with certain restrictions in 10g). Not exactly restoring though.

Mahesh,
Thanks for your answer. I want to know basically if the endian formats are equal. I found note 550042.1 from Metalink that clear all my doubts.
Thanks again.
