Export with mknod failing [message #381301]

Export with mknod is failling. We are executing this using shell script. The script is working fine in other enviornments like linux etc but failling in hp-unix.
Connected to: Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
EXP-00028: failed to open /stage/export/AWPROD.dmp for write
Export file: expdat.dmp >
EXP-00030: Unexpected End-Of-File encountered while reading input
EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully

Please suggest how to resolve the issue?

Maybe:
- you didn't call the script as it should be
- you don't have the privilege to create a pipe
- you don't have the privilege to write in a pipe
- you didn't set EXP_DIR variable
- ...
