Dear all,

I have configured shared server for our 9i database.
But I haven't mentioned server=shared in client side tnsnames.ora file.
Which value will it take?shared or dedicated?
Since for dedicated connection we have to specify server=dedicated clause.
Thanks

If shared servers are configured, the default is SHARED (but if you connect as SYS).

Thanks for your reply.
We are getting this error when we have added server=shared in tnsnames entry & try to connect to remote server.
ORA -12519 - appropriate service handler not initialized

But if there is not such clause we get dedicated connection.

ORA-12519: TNS:no appropriate service handler found
*Cause: The listener could not find any available service handlers that
are appropriate for the client connection.
*Action: Run "lsnrctl services" to ensure that the instance(s) have
registered with the listener, and are accepting connections
