Users posed a total of 77,566 messages on this forum in 2007. However, this year we only had 73,772 messages thus far. So, let's try to see if we can match (or at least get close to) the 2007 number. Please keep in mind that quality is still important and that users should not just post meaningless or empty messages for the sake of it. So, the goal is to post 3,794 useful messages before 1 January 2009! Are you guys game?

Well, if Maarten is the reason - and we know why (Vic was born and he fought diapers instead of queries), my conclusion is that he (or someone else of the regulars, or even more of them - but 3 at most! ***) got babies in 2003 as well. Because, # of messages in 2003 was ~5.000 less than number of messages in 2002.
A little bit of arithmetics: the day isn't over yet (at least, not in my part of the world). Our eastern members are in bed, but all of you over the ocean are yet to post most of your messages. As there are ~200 messages so far, let's assume that we'll manage to post at least 250 messages today (my today).
Furthermore, as there are 12 days left in this year, knowing that it's Christmas and 2 weekends ahead (which promise less messages than usually), we are 4 days short. 8 days x 250 messages = 2.000 messages.
So, if I'm right, there's no chance to post as much messages as last year. Unless, of course, I keep producing such a very productive and meaningful posts as this one 
*** Why 3 at most? Because, if my calculations are OK, we'll be 1700 messages short; 5000 / 1700 = 3 regulars who post as much messages as Maarten).

We are currently at 74518 posts. So, unless we can convince one of the other Oracle forums to merge with us, we will probably not make it. However, nothing stops us from at least trying to get as close as we possibly can.

hi barbara,
there were many questions were not convincingly answered. It has happened to me in this forum. Ultimately left the topic and convinced myself that time will solve my problems.There may be various reasons.
1. I am unable to express my doubt in good shape or understandable way.
2. Doubts and producing test case on the doubts may be tougher logic
3. replies dragged on different direction and has started new dimension and the original doubts were uncarred.
4. Slight fear on critisism and make draining of efforts.
5. not given proper weightage on understanding poor english communication.
As you have suggested, there are some more miles to achive quality performance and though with irritation on repeating manythings and classifying the frequent doubts and the rare one.
quoting number of posts making many persons to get irritated due and some must keep in mind that "I know some thing which you do not know. at the same time, I can not claim that i know every thing.
More than anything if forum can establish the confidence level that any doubts can be clarrified with polite manner, we shall think that we have achieved some quality standard. Till then we have to work.

This is not a personality development site that helps to elevate the level of confidence one has or teach communication skills.
In fact, a huge majority of the forum are non-native English speakers (including you and me).
So language is not a barrier here. OraFAQ is just a tech forum and rules are very simple.

To my known knowledge, no one here discourages to post a question or from responding to a question.
This being a public forum ,positive criticism is the only part that could control quality and continually improve the subject
matter expertise.
This is just a small corner in the world wide web (users are totally anonymous) and if one feels to be intimidated by criticisms how can one handle real world situations?
The same can happen within the team at work or during an interview.
Dictionary.com defines Forum as

Why assume the negative?
Maybe it was caused by better "housekeeping": lots of merging and/or deletion of duplicate posts have occurred last year, while in earlier times such posts tended to be locked.
