I have created a DB and it was working fine.
I created a new DB using Oracle 8i DBA studio , Db configuration assistant. Then it gave me Network protocol error , when I tried to login as sys to SQL PLUS, Then I deleted the later DB,And saw ro it that every detail of old DB is found proper with \network\admin\.ora files.
Now the ERROR is that I cannot connect to my old DB.
it says
ORA-12154 : TNS: could not resolve service name

Please guide me solution.
Thanking in advance.
SUDHIR.

Are you sure that your alias is pointing to correct DB(i.e., check if your Service name and Host name given in the tnsnames.ora is correct). Check the correctness of the alias by tnspinging.
This can be done as follows,
$tnsping <alias name>

Check if any unmatched paranthesis in tnsnames.ora file. I had this problem sometime back, I could resolve it by replacing the file with original file(backup file).

I am sure there must be some thing wrong with this file only.

Thanks and Regards
