I am now in ORACLE 8.1.6 on RedHat Linux 6.2, I created two links to another two remote database: one is ORACLE 7.2.3 on Unix and one is ORACLE 8.1.6 on Linux, I found the latter works and the former doesn't. My SQLNET's configuration is correct, I can connect to both from OS level using database description string.

But I got error as below when using database link within SQLPLUS:

ORA-12663: Services required by client not available on the server

Are you sure DB links are build correctlly?
try to select GLOBAL_NAME to see if it's your
service name , last time this problem hold me
for a few day?
