The SYSTEM tablespace on one of my servers is very small, but it sits in a filesystem that is busy running out of space.
Question: Is it ok to just add a second datafile to the SYSTEM tablespace, in another filesystem, and set that one to autoextend ?
I just want to make sure there aren't any hidden surprises waiting for me, seeing that this is on the SYSTEM tablespace.
(ie. the management of the system tablespace is the same as any other tablespace ?)

PS. you mentioned corruption of the file and the database.
Is this what will happen when the system tablespace gets full ? I was under the impression that Oracle will either hang or shut down, not being able to continue - but not that the space will get corrupted.
