How to see status of instances (up / down / open) [message #357705]

Hi there all,

I was wandering how I can see in Unix what instancess are up and what are down but still see all instancess.

Can you do it from shell or do I need to get in Oracle?
I know of pmon but is that running when the instance is down?

so where I am getting at, are there processes that can tell me?

For example 1st is instance 2nd is someting else.

1 up - 2 up == up
1 up - 2 down == down
1 down - 2 down == someting really wrong. Razz

Hope you people understand what I mean. Smile

Up, you can: check for pmon or smon.
Down, you can't.

So if 1 instance is down for whatever reason I cant find it anyware?

No but you may have some in /etc/oratab or /var/opt/oracle/oratab.
