Dear all,

I want to duplicate my production database onto a new server using RMAN.

Can i use the same database name on the duplicate server. Furthermore do i need to create a catalogue database.

Yes, you can.
To create a catalog database refer to the documentation.

hi,
To create a duplicate you do not necessarily have to have a catalog.

Hi all,
I am getting the error below, when connect to my catalogue db and auxiliary db from my target db.

connected to target database: CNP (DBID=66200643)

connected to recovery catalog database

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

RMAN-00554: initialization of internal recovery manager package failed

RMAN-04006: error from auxiliary database: ORA-12528: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections


please help.
