Hi

Here what is the difference between both the commands?

>DAY=`cal $MONTH $YEAR | grep . | fmt -1 | tail -1`
>echo $DAY
30

>DAY=`cal $MONTH $YEAR |fmt -1 | tail -1`
>echo $DAY

here i get no value?if i dont use grep .

please advice?
