i just created a database in windows xp, oracle10g

when i try to shutdown/startup my database using the DB console i have the error attached:

Unfortunately this is not what Oracle thinks, I tend to trust it.
Check you are trying to connect to the correct instance/database.

hi,
check the services on windows, this will tell you the correct SID that you are using.

the service should be called - OracleServiceSID' where SID is your installed database SID.

Have you tried to connect to the database as 'sysdba' from a command prompt?

in cmd i can connect to the database useing: sysdba, system, etc

am having problems with the host credentials

Hello alls,

I also have the problem with dirish, so I've no need to post any more title here.

More detail : I can connect the oracle database by using SQL*Plus by system/password as sysdba

I am sure that my four fields are correct but I dont' know, why?
it's always shown stupid screen like dirish's attached.

A lots of thanks if you someone could guide us to solve this problem.
