Hi Friend,
I have done the same task migrating 8i to 9i in solaris OS.Its very simple. Things to do.
0. Take the backup (compulsory)
1. Install the new version binaries in the host with different ORACLE_HOME.
2.Add an entry in the oratab file.(UNIX OS).
3.Make sure you have enough space as the control files and system data files will grow.(SYSTEM datafile atleast 160MB free).
4.Make sure your previous database is up and running.
5. comment out prevoius oracle_home in oratab.
6. go the new ORACLE_HOME bin file and run the DBUA.
7. select the database you want to upgrade.
8. After finish. just change the pfile parameter back to same as previous version.(Some parameter will get changed in pfile by DBUA).
All done....... your database is migrated to new version.
Thank you,
Naveen
