Oracle can reconstruct it from what's inside data files and redo logs.

Thanks Michel.

Correct me if I'm wrong. As per my understanding(read from Oracle doc),the RAC Instance recovery will take place as follows

1. Instance/node failure is detected.
2. GRD is rebuilt.
3. Which blocks needs recovery is identified using GRD.
4. Then, recovery will start using redo logs.

If i missed any steps in this recovery process, please provide that one also and confirm whether the step 3 is correct or not.

I'm still not clear about the usage of & keeping Past Image in each instances, can anyone please explain its usage with a failure scenario?

Thanks..
