Experts,

we have a 7 years old database and size upto 8 TB. due to this size of of the DB we are facing some performance issued for some select operations.

now we had a plan to archive some data (around 3-4 years of data) into another host which will act as reporting database.

my intension is i need to move 4 years of data from PRODUCTION to REPORTING DATABASE out of 7 years database. i did not have any idea to move 4 years of data. can any one tell/suggest me which one is the best way to do it.

please find some more additional details:

my database was started in 2000 july 3rd. up to now i have 8 years of data. i want to move 2000,2001,2002,2003 data from prod to reporting database.

Do you have a rigorous methodology to identify the data to be archive?

If so, then proceed to do so.
If not, the give up this pipe dream & buy more disks.
