We have a production RAC database at a remote site.
I made a local copy of the database for Disaster Recovery and left the database in recovery mode (Startup Mount).
Every 3 hours we FTP the Archive Log backup created by RMAN to our local database and update the database.
The steps we perform are:
- set ORACLE_SID=PROD1
- RMAN target sys/pw
- Shutdown
- Startup nomount
- Restore ControlFile from '<Latest Backup Control File>';
- Shutdown
- Startup mount
- Recover Database;
My question is how do I upgrade this database to 9.2.0.8?
Part of the upgrade is applying a database script.
Can I apply the script while the database is never opened or am I forced to create a Full backup using RMAN,
after our production database is updated?
This database shares its oracle home with other instances, can I upgrade the Oracle home and upgrade
the other databases without it affecting the process to apply the Archive Log Backups to the Disaster Recovery database?
I hope I am asking the questions in the right forum.
