Iirc, XML was not known at the time of 8.1.7.0.0.
You have to build your own package or find one, maybe a Java class, on the web.

Alternative? Hmm, write a program in your favourite language.

HI Michel,
Just to check, if i were to upgrade my oracle, then to which version should i upgrade?
or in other words, which is the version of oracle that started to support XML?

Thanks a lot.
Regards,
Vimal.

As far as I remember, xmltype was introduced in 9i but if you upgrade, you should upgrade to 10.2.

You will find at http://www.orafaq.com/forum/m/258754/102589/#msg_258754 an example of xml generated for a query.

Regards
Michel
