Hello Experts,
We are planning to convert our production database to 11g RAC. The size of the database is about 250GB.
For a database of this size, what will be a good practice for setting up its ASM disk group(s)?
Your input and views are greatly appreciated!

Really it is up to you and your SAN admin/SA. Here are a few basic practices:
1. Luns should be a consistent size if at all possible and you need to decide whether you want external redundancy (OS/SAN level) or normal/high redundancy (ASM level), the latter will take up 2 or 3 times (respectively) the disk space as the external option.
2. All luns should be the same speed or IO rate unless they are to be used for separate disk groups.
3. Determine a growth pattern to decide how much "extra" diskspace (luns) to allocate now and in the future.
250g is not a large database by todays standards, for ones that size that grow by, say 50g per year, I would start with six or seven 50g luns at external redundancy.
