Hi,
Our RMAN merge backup failed with:

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure of recover command at 07/02/2008 12:11:17
ORA-19870: error reading backup piece /gstcon/backup/GSTCON_20180702_64632.rman
ORA-19625: error identifying file /gstcon/backup/GSTCON_20180629_64168.rman
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
HPUX-ia64 Error: 2: No such file or directory
Additional information: 3


--Looks like some one deleted some of the backup files. What do i need to do to have a proper backup? Do i need to run a incremental backup followed by a merge backup? or do i need to take a full backup?

These are Operating System errors & have NOTHING to do with Oracle directly.
I'd suspect a file permissions problem.
Talk to the Unix SA

You tell us.
If you are guessing, what are we supposed to respond?
If the files are NOT missing, it could be a permissions issue.

My question is do i need to take a incremental backup and then merge backup to have a safe backup or do i need to take a full backup?

Do both. You can never have too many backups!
