Hi all,

I just installed the Oracle software version 10.2.0.1 but I haven't created a database nor the services (oradim) yet. I also downloaded patch set 3 (version 10.2.0.4).
Now my question: can I just install the patch set or do I first have to create the services and the database?
I couldn't quite figure that out from the documentation (Install. guide, patch set README) - it seems they're assuming there's already a database created.
As far as I know in the patch sets there are also PL/SQL packages affected which need compiling. If I install the patch set without having the database first will it just overwrite the sources in %ORACLE_HOME%\RDBMS\ADMIN and use those when I create the database?

OS: Windows 2003 server

Thanks a lot!

Regards

You install the patch against an Oracle Home. If the database is already created, you need to use startup upgrade. Check the
information in Readme file along with patchset.
