Hello, I am trying to recover from the loss of the unarchived redo log group:

SQL> select group#, members, status, archived
  2  from v$log;

    GROUP#    MEMBERS STATUS     ARCHIVED
---------- ---------- ---------- ---------------
         2          2 INACTIVE   NO
         1          2 CURRENT    NO

However, when I try to clear the logfile group, database just hangds.

SQL> ALTER DATABASE CLEAR UNARCHIVED LOGFILE GROUP 2;

Database was open when the group was "lost". What can I do in this situation?

thank you!

You must have at least 3 groups.
So first add a group.

did you try to switch to logfile group 1 before clearing group 2 ?

alter system switch logfile;

*caution: don't shutdown your db

See the query result, group 1 is the current redo logs.

switching logfile didn't help, so I had to shutdown. After I cleared the group, I took whole backup for future recoveries. Thank you!
