Hi all,

I am creating 10g database and ASM instance has been already created by somebody else on the windows 2003 server. DBCA is asking for sys password for ASM and when I type in a new password, it throws the below error:

‘Passwords cannot be verified. IO exception. Network adapter cannot establish the connection’

Do I have to use the same password for sys, like when the asm instance was created??

Thanks everyone for your help.

Hi Anacedent,

I am pretty sure, I am missing something here, but not sure what.

If it is about describing the whole scenario, this is all I am doing.

Oracle 10.2.0.1 have been installed on windows 2003 server and asm instance has been created and the OracleASMservice+ASM is started. This is done by somebody else at the client side.

I will have to create a database on this server and then import data. I am creating database using dbca, and after I enter the database credentials for sys and system user, I selected ASM for storage options and dbca asks for password for ASM. When I entered a new password and it throws the below error:

‘Passwords cannot be verified. IO exception. Network adapter cannot establish the connection’ - ignore or abort

I am wondering if I should use the same password for ASM(password when asm instance was created). So, I can ask my client for the password.

Thanks.

Read the error message again. Especially the third sentence.

That's the reason for the problem, and you have checked nothing in relation to your network setup and posted no information at all in relation to your network setup.

Thomas,

I am connecting to the client’s server through their vpn using remotely anywhere.
Could it be specifically the network connection drop with the ASM instance??

Thanks.

"It" could be any number of a gazillion reasons.
dbca creates log files.
Listener has log file
ASM has alert_ASM.log file
YOU have available to you plenty of clues; yet you post detail free mystery expecting us to solve it.

Hi plshelp,

When the ASM instance was created, a sys password was created for this instance; you need to get this password from whoever created the ASM instance to be able to proceed...
