Hi All,
I have devised an RMAN strategy for a database which is around 125 gb size. i have decided to use RMAN incremental backups. I tested my script which is,
RUN
{
DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE;
CROSSCHECK BACKUP;
CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL;
DELETE NOPROMPT EXPIRED BACKUP;
DELETE NOPROMPT EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL;
ALLOCATE CHANNEL C1 DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 100M;
ALLOCATE CHANNEL C2 DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 100M;
ALLOCATE CHANNEL C3 DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 100M
format 'C:\RMANBKP\%U';
BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 DATABASE TAG Weekly_Friday_0_Hotpsms_bkp;
SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT';
ALLOCATE CHANNEL B1 DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 100M;
ALLOCATE CHANNEL B2 DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 100M
format 'C:\RMANBKP\%U';
BACKUP DATABASE ARCHIVELOG ALL DELETE ALL INPUT TAG Weekly_Friday_0_Hotpsms_bkp;
BACKUP VALIDATE DATABASE;
BACKUP VALIDATE DATABASE ARCHIVELOG ALL;
}

whenever i run the above script, the backups are taken to 'C:\RMANBKP\%U' as specified in FORMAT command and in addition backups are also taken to the default location 'D:\oracle\ora92\database\%U'

But , i want the backups to be taken to 'C:\RMANBKP\%U' alone...pls give me a solution

thank you ,
Arun

Add location in all your channels (see C3).

Hi Michel,
thank you for the tip now its working fine except for an error

The formatted script is (as per your tip):
RUN
{
DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE;
CROSSCHECK BACKUP;
CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL;
DELETE NOPROMPT EXPIRED BACKUP;
DELETE NOPROMPT EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL;
ALLOCATE CHANNEL C1 DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 100M format 'C:\RMANBKP\%U';
ALLOCATE CHANNEL C2 DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 100M format 'C:\RMANBKP\%U';
ALLOCATE CHANNEL C3 DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 100M format 'C:\RMANBKP\%U';
BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 DATABASE TAG Weekly_Friday_0_Hotpsms_bkp;
SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT';
ALLOCATE CHANNEL B1 DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 100M format 'C:\RMANBKP\%U';
ALLOCATE CHANNEL B2 DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 100M format 'C:\RMANBKP\%U';
BACKUP DATABASE ARCHIVELOG ALL DELETE ALL INPUT TAG Weekly_Friday_0_Hotpsms_bkp;
BACKUP VALIDATE DATABASE;
BACKUP VALIDATE DATABASE ARCHIVELOG ALL;
}

when above was executed i get,

RMAN retention policy will be applied to the command
RMAN retention policy is set to redundancy 2

You deleted all the archive logs, therefore BACKUP VALIDATE DATABASE ARCHIVELOG ALL will fail unless another archive log gets generated prior to executing this command.
