Hi All,

I am in the process to install Oracle with ASM on Suse Linux 10.

I need to create the disk to be used for ASM. I got the below two ways to create disks:

1. Install Oracleasm rpm packages and then use the oracleasm commands to create asm disks.

2. create raw disk using the below commands:

chkconfig raw on
raw /dev/raw/raw1 /dev/dm0 .... etc. steps

and then put the entry in /etc/raw file.

Now my query is, What is the difference between both the above options.

Which option should be used to create ASM disks. (ASM size should be around 1TB)

Please provide your inputs.

Thanks
Harsh

If you are talking to me, I'm sorry but I neither use Linux nor ASM.

Regards
Michel
